31 Days To A Wiser Marriage: Day 11

To Do: Read Proverbs 11

Focus Point: Proverbs 11:13-14

The NL T version reads: A gossip goes around telling secrets, but those who are trustworthy can keep a confidence. Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisors.

These two scriptures definitely go hand in hand. Your marriage and things that go on inside of it is private, which means you are not to make it a habit of getting on the phone with your single girlfriends talking badly about your husband. Use wisdom when it comes  who you are talking to; Don’t talk to you girlfriend that doesn’t like her husband about yours because all she is going to do is give you terrible advice. This goes for husbands as well. You are not to dog your wife out to anyone and that includes friends, coworkers, parents and even church members. When you and your spouse have intimate conversations, those are private so even in the midst of an argument, you are never to bring those things up to hurt them and you are definitely never to expose those private secrets to others in conversation.

If you guys must work some things out, remember there is safety in wise counsel. Pray together and ask the Lord to send you someone who would provide sound counsel. This could be your pastor or an older married couple. Whoever God sends, never put them ahead of Christ when it comes to your decision-making. You make the final decisions yourselves as they are made between you, your spouse and God.

Affirmation of the Day:

My spouse and I are determined to speak positive about one another and consult godly counsel when we need it.
