31 Days To A Wiser Marriage: Day 1

Hey Guys It’s Holmes Confessions Monday!

I’m so glad to be back on the blog as I miss talking to you all. And as I promised, I will be sharing my complete book, “31 Days To A Wiser Marriage” with all of you. We are going to go through the devotional together over the next 31 days of May and get our marriages and relationships back in order. I especially need this more than ever because I just had my first child and it seems you can forget all about your marriage as you’re trying to adjust to new life as a parent.

These are the instructions on how we will go through the journal: Every day we will read a new Proverb that corresponds with the day we are on, then there will be a “Focus Point” which will tell you exactly which scriptures we will be focusing on for that day. Then at the very end of the devotional, there will be an affirmation for you to speak over your marriage. Soooo let’s get started.

To Do: Read Proverbs 1

Focus Point: Proverbs 1:10, 15-16

Proverbs 1 is pretty much explaining that these scriptures are a manual for living, as well as learning what is right, just and fair. It is designed to teach the inexperienced the ropes and give young people a grasp on reality.

Proverbs 1:10 says, “My child, if sinners entice you, turn your back on them. Verses 15-16 says, “My child, don’t go along with them. Stay away from their paths, for their feet run to evil; and they make haste to shed blood (NLT).

When you’re thinking about this scripture, think about marriage. Don’t let the sins of others entice you to do the wrong thing. I will never forget a time where I was frustrated in my marriage for just a moment and I confided in someone who has been married way longer than myself so I asked her for advice. She gave me the worst advice you could give someone concerning their marriage. She said that if she were me, she would have someone on the side for a rainy day so that I could always be happy. She was actually advising me to have an affair. Yes she was a married woman who said that marriage was NOT all it was cracked up to be and that your husband is NOT going to meet all of your needs so instead of trying to get him to do just that, entertain some one on the side so you don’t have to be so angry at home.

I was floored by her advice and if I lacked wisdom, I could have easily been enticed and went right along with her foolishness. She had no problem explaining to me that she does it herself, and it actually keeps her home happy, because she doesn’t have to walk around with an attitude about her husband not meeting her need because someone else already has.

But the word of God says to use wisdom and not to follow the foot steps of evil people. Decide today that you will use wisdom and protect your marriage. Don’t allow sin to entice you when you hit a rough patch. And believe me, YOU WILL HIT A ROUGH PATCH! Pray over your marriage daily and guard it at all times, and don’t allow the enemy to have a door in your marriage. Stay away from people who mean your marriage harm, and consult God when it comes to your spouse. After all, He created them so he knows best anyway.

Affirmation of the day: My marriage is great and my spouse and I adore one another.

Meditate on this word today and think of ways you can make your marriage greater and do some cleaning up in your circle. If you find that there are people in it who mean your marriage no good and are enticing you to sin, LEAVE THEM!

    • Thanks so much Evelyn. I try to move as the God leads me. I definitely didn’t write this book to proclaim to know it all after only being married a year and a half. I have just learned to trust God with my marriage and He has taught me a few things a long the way during my maternity leave and during the hard times of my marriage. We definitely appreciate your support and would love to get some pointers from you as well. We know you’re an OG LOL!
