Woman, you are beautiful!!!

We live in a society that will make us believe we need all kinds of enhancements to be beautiful. We will manipulate every part of us; our hair, facial structure, our tummy, skin complexion, implants, and even our lips to live up to a standard of beauty that isn’t natural, as if who we already are is NOT beautiful.

Proverbs 139:14 teaches us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. We don’t have to conform to the world’s way of thinking, especially concerning our beauty. The mouth is certainly a weapon. People can say some things that will change the way you feel about your own self. Ok, so here’s my Holmes Confession: When I was growing up, people would always say something a long the lines of, “You’re pretty for a DARK girl”. I always thought to myself why can’t I just be “regular” pretty? It made me feel like not only was I not preferred because I was dark skinned, but that I may actually look better if only I was a little lighter.  It forced me to believe I had to be so much better, so much smarter, so much nicer, much more fit and something more “extra” than who I was because being dark wasn’t on my side.

Now that’s just crazy, but look at how extreme a person can go from simply not feeling like they are pretty enough. Take rapper, Lil Kim for example. Below is a photo of her the way we know her from the 90s, and in 2016 she has completely changed her look and here is what she had to say about it.

In an interview with Newsweek she says, “All my life men have told me I wasn’t pretty enough–even the men I was dating. And I’d be like, ‘Well, why are you with me, then?’ ” She winces. “I have low self-esteem and I always have,” she says. “Guys always cheated on me with women who were European-looking. You know, the long-hair type. Really beautiful women that left me thinking, ‘How I can I compete with that?’ Being a regular black girl wasn’t good enough.” And the implants? “That surgery was the most pain I’ve ever been in in my life,” says Kim. “But people made such a big deal about it. White women get them every day. It was to make me look the way I wanted to look.”

God is not pleased with us bashing ourselves and thinking negatively towards who we are. I had plain old STINKING THINKING, just like Lil Kim. I, of course, don’t think that way anymore. It’s ridiculous and it’s pure nonsense. I am the Daughter of the King, fearfully and wonderfully made by the Almighty God. I am BEAUTIFUL, just like her and so are YOU. So don’t let anyone tell you different or make you feel different!

Know who you are in Christ!

This is my Holmes Confession

Be blessed all day!

Love Always,

Maine Holmes
